Tips to Find Community while Full-time Traveling in an RV
One of the common misconceptions about this Full-time RV lifestyle is that you will miss the community.
Can I be honest?
Since being on the road, I can honestly say we have felt more community now, since we launched than I ever did living in a traditional home. Life is so structured in sticks-and-brings (as the Full-time RVer's put it). You wake up, you pack lunch for the kids, send them on the bus for school, you go to work, you come home and cook dinner, help kids with homework, bath time, bed time....repeat. Many times you have to schedule a Friday night get-together on the calendar.
On the road, there is more room for flexibility, more family time, more friend time. Things like, cutting the grass, cleaning a huge house, managing your stuff is no longer in the equation. Spontaneous camp fires, last minute hikes, trips to a museum tend to happen more often on the road.
Here are some ways we have been able to meet other families:
1. Joining Fulltime Families - we are so happy we did this before we launched. We were put in Facebook groups that helped us met people before going on the road. In the first week we launched, we had the opportunity to go to a the FTF Reunion in Madison, FL. Looking back that was one of the BEST things we could have done! We met friends right away!
2. Join Thousand Trails - This is a membership that allows families to pay for a membership where you can camp for free with your membership in many locations all over the US. There are several different tiers of memberships, we dove in at the top one (The Adventure Package) and don't regret it. Have questions? Fill out this form so our rep can help you!
3. Introduce yourself to others and don't be shy to invite them over for a fire, or for dinner. We LOVE to entertain and Rob is known to cook Hibachi! Put yourself out there!
4. Make yourself a fun handle name on Instagram. Ours is Peeples.and.Places :-) So many that travel full time document their travels this way and network.
5. Join Escapees, they have many events all over the country!
